Team Associated RC10 Worlds Car (1994) 6037

Introduction:

After reviewing over 3000 RC model cars for this site, this is the first where the original box could potentially be worth more to a collector than the car itself.

Introduced by Team Associated in 1994, the RC10 Worlds Car #6037, was based on the car Brian Kinwald won the 1993 World Championship title, with all the upgrades and tweaks his winning car had, down to the weight lowering milling of the chassis base.

So why might the box so collectable ? A short time after the kit was released, with Brian Kinwald's picture on both sides of the box to celebrate his win, Brian Kinwald left Associated and moved over to the Losi Team. The Associated management were so angry, the box was scrapped and a new box with the pictures of Brian Kinwald removed was introduced. It is unknown how many of those original Kinwald boxes remain, but they are now much sought after by Associated collectors and enthusiasts.

In this series of articles I will endeavour to provide information to help identify any of the 1/10 Scale RC10 2WD series and where it sits along its evolutionary trail. With this knowledge, any RC10 owner should be able to decide if their model is just one of the many thousands that were produced, or is potentially a collectors "holy grail".

Hints, Tips and Information

Getting into RC

When I first got into racing RC, all I had was a three year old clapped out Tamiya Boomerang, a silver can stock motor, three step mechanical speed controller, two 1400Mah stick batteries and basic Acoms stick transmitter.

I was the newbie and most of the guys I was racing against had all the latest models, modified motors, matched batteries and top spec radio equipment, but I was still beating them easily. Why? The answer is simple:

Keeping Notes

If all you will ever do is go racing at your local track every week, then this article is not for you. However, if you ever look towards travelling around to different tracks around the country, or even the world, the value of keeping notes is all too obvious.

Every time I raced in a regional or national competition meeting, I would make detailed notes, aided by a little local knowledge initially, and later fine tuned to suit my own driving style.

My experience now means there are few, if any outdoor tarmac tracks within a 300 mile radius I haven't been to, and my notes on motor, gearing, camber angles, shock settings, tire choice and what inserts work best for that particular track, amongst others, allow me to save valuable time on the finer points of car setup, that can be done in the warmth of my own home on the kitchen table days before the meeting, instead of the often crippling heat, or the arduous conditions inside a wind blown tent.
