Traxxas TRX-4 Chevrolet K5 Blazer (2019) - 82076-4 - Radio Controlled Model

   Introduced by Traxxas in 2019, the "Scale and Trail" TRX-4 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Rock Crawler - # 82076-4 - came factory assembled RTR, with a choice of 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer pre-painted orange or red Bodyshells, a XL-5 HV ESC, Titan 21T 550 Brushed Motor, Metal Gear Servo and TQi 2.4GHz Radio System. A Battery and Charger to be purchased separately.

   A third pre-painted Black Bodyshell version was produced in 2021.

   The 4WD model is shaft driven, on a front motor design steel frame chassis with floor pans and adjustable wheelbase, sealed limited slip T-Lock (remote locking) differentials, coil spring over oil filled dampers, hardened steel universal joint drive-shafts, slipper clutch, high/low transmission and a full set of ball bearings.

How to Reduce the Weight of your RC Model Car

   If you ever step up and enter a regional, national or international event in RC, you will find one specific rule concerning the weight of your car.

   At the time this article was written, the Minimum weight restrictions for 1:10 electric Touring Cars at different events, was between 1350g and 1500g. This includes your Motor, ESC, Receiver, Battery, Body Shell and the transponder.

   Out of the box you will find the majority of 1:10 Touring Cars, with everything onboard, are way over this Minimum weight, and unless you are good enough to attract sponsors, getting your car down to anything approaching that minimum weight will be very expensive.

   There are things you can buy like micro ESC, and Receivers. But Batteries and Motors are what they are, and you have to work around them.

   To reduce the weight of your chassis, there are a number of things you can do.

On Road Tires for Tarmac

   Modern day RC Model Rubber Tires for tarmac racing, generally come in wide or narrow format and in three compounds - Soft, Medium and Hard, each compound corresponding to different track temperatures.

   Inserts also come as soft, medium and hard, and are necessary to provide subtle but potentially race winning differences in grip, dependant on the grain structure of the tarmac used in the construction of the track.

   Club racers probably need just the three compound sets of tires, wide or narrow and with one particular type of insert. But if you are to venture into the world of National and International racing, you will need up to eighteen complete sets, to cover all the possible combinations of track condition, plus at least one set of wet weather tires.
