Tamiya XB Ford Bronco 1973 - 57818
|
Released by Tamiya on October 29, 2011, the XB Ford Bronco 1973 (#57818) is No.118 of the RTR Pre-Assembled Expert Built Series and is based on the CC-01 Cross Country chassis. The Ford Bronco 1973 kit (#58469) was introduced in December 2010. The model is of the iconic Ford Bronco 1973 truck, that was produced in the USA between 1965 and 1977.
LED lights, a pre-painted lexan bodyshell, a 540 motor and radio system are included, but may require a battery, charger and speed controller to complete (specifications differ from country to country).
The 4WD bathtub CC-01 chassis employs two orbital gear differentials, coil spring over oil filled dampers and dog-bone drive shafts. The front and rear gearboxes are linked via a universal jointed prop shaft.
Like the vast majority of Tamiya models, the model comes with plastic and sintered brass bush type bearings, that after a short while, when dust and grit get into them, actually abrade the metal drive shafts that spin in them - our recommendation is that these should be replaced by steel shielded ball bearings ASAP.
To get the best from the Tamiya Ford Bronco 1973, it needs to be fine tuned to handle jumps under control and has enough grip to hug the corners at high speed, without slipping off the track. Small adjustments can make a Big difference and our simple to understand, step by step procedure, will guide you to the best Set-up for your driving style.

Hints, Tips and Information How to Charge Rechargeable Batteries for Peak PerformanceNi-Cad (Nickel Cadmium) Batteries
1/ All Ni-Cad Batteries have to be Discharged soon after use. This is to avoid the dreaded "Memory" effect that on subsequent re-charges can cause a momentary drop in performance during a race. A simple discharger can be made from a car 12v bulb.
Ni-Mh (Nickel Metal Hydride) Batteries
1/ Never charge Ni-Mh batteries at a current higher than 4.5 amps. Although these batteries can give a higher voltage than Ni-Cad Batteries, they are much more sensitive and easy to damage if charged too quickly. |
Hints, Tips and Information
Tire Compounds
Way back in the early 1990s when I first got into RC, most of the off-road models available came with chunky hard compound block tires that gave little or no grip on grass or dirt tracks. On-road didn't have this problem as they were still using sponge tires that with a coating of wintergreen based tire additive before each race to improve grip. There was even one guy who swore, before every race, he dipped his wheels in a glass of light ale. |
