Xray XT2 - 2WD Series - Radio Controlled Models

   First introduced by Team Xray in September 2016, the 2WD XT2 2017 (XT2'17) Stadium Truck - 320200 - is 80% compatible with their successful XB2 Buggy chassis, allowing the servo, battery and motor, to be repositioned within the chassis for balance and fine tuning for various track types.

   In November 2017, their XT2 2018 (XT2'18) kit - 320201 - came with two differential options for the builder to choose from: For Carpet Racing, a gear differential, and for Dirt Track Racing, a ball differential.

   A number of updated and upgraded XT2 versions were released over the following years: 320202 - XT2 2019 (XT2C'19) - Carpet Edition, 320203 - XT2 2019 (XT2D'19) - Dirt Edition, 320204 - XT2 2021 (XT2C'21) - Carpet Edition, 320205 - XT2 2021 (XT2D'21) - Dirt Edition, 320206 - XT2 2023 (XT2C'23) - Carpet Edition, 320207 - XT2 2023 (XT2D'23) - Dirt Edition, 320208 - XT2 2024 (XT2C'24) - Carpet Edition, 320209 - XT2 2024 (XT2D'24) - Dirt Edition.

   The basic 2WD model is based on an alloy plate chassis, with either a gear differential for carpet version, or ball differential for dirt track version, coil spring over oil filled dampers, slipper clutch, universal joint drive-shafts, and a full set of ball bearings.

   To race the Xray XT2, you need to tweak and adjust all you can to give your car improved handling, stability and grip to ease around the curves and keep you on the track.    This is an ongoing project, with new and "lost in time" RC Models and Brands being added as they are found and although most of those listed above have been covered in relative detail, some are still being researched and will be completed in the near future.

My First National

   When I first started in RC, way back in the late 1980s, I would turn up to the weekly club meeting, with my Tamiya Boomerang, Acoms transmitter, two sets of crystals, a couple of 7.2v batteries, a charger and a tool box with a wheel spanner and a few spares.
   It was three five minute qualifying rounds and a final, and every month we would have a trophy meeting. The trophies were donated by a two of the older semi professional guys who basically ran the club and over the years had collected what must have been hundreds of trophies and had no space for them anymore. The lure of a trophy always brought out the "not as enthusiastic types" and the small church function room was always packed on those nights.
   About a year in, my collection of B final trophies was beginning to clutter my room, and my dad bought me the new Tamiya Manta Ray. That was the big turning point in my RC career.
   From then on it was A finals all the way. Then one day in the summer of 1992 the club organisers (the semi pro guys) asked me if I would like to go to a BIG national meeting way down south in Malvern. I asked my dad and with a bit of prompting he said "why not".
   When we got to that meeting we found there were around a hundred competitors, with ten groups of ten. I was in group "H". a two of my friends went down with us and they were in group "I" so were on just before me.

Look after your Gears

   In RC there are a number of different gear teeth sizes we tend to use, based on two systems. Imperial and metric.

   The imperial system has sizes 24dp, 32dp, 48dp and 64dp. DP stands for Diametral Pitch and the number refers to the number of teeth per inch.

   The metric system has sizes 0.4m, 0.5m, 0.6m, 0.7m, 0.8m and 1m. M stands for Module and is the ratio of the reference diameter of the gear divided by the number of teeth.

   The different sizes are used basically for strength. 32dp gear teeth are larger than 64dp gear teeth, therefore the 32dp gears are by design stronger and for this reason are more commonly used on a number of entry level buggys, to help them withstand the knocks and crashes by drivers new to RC, and nitro models because of the higher torque levels involved. Also, the bigger the scale of the model, the stronger the teeth need to be.
