Tamiya Top Force 2005 - 58362
|
Released by Tamiya on December 20, 2005, this is a re-release of the Top Force buggy that had been originally released in November 1991 (#58100).
Basically, the Top Force is a lightweight double deck, Fibreglass Reinforced Plate (FRP) version of the highly successful shaft driven, 4WD Manta Ray DF-01 chassis.
For the Top Force, the basic gear differentials of the DF-01 chassis were replaced with pressure plate ball differentials. The coil spring over oil filled shock absorbers remained and dog-bone drive shafts also were used in the rear, but universal drive shafts were employed up front. The wire prop shaft was also upgraded to a more rigid design.
For some reason, the bearings in the Top Force kit are sintered metal, that if installed, the grease used to lubricate them catches dust and grit that after a short while will abrade the drive shafts that spin in them. I would recommend you obtain set of ball bearings before the kit is first assembled.
When originally released, many considered the Top Force to be a vast improvement over the Manta Ray and on flat, smooth, undulating tracks, it was. But because of the lightweight construction and the double decks tendency to flex, it was not as fast "out of the box" on rugged, bumpy tracks. Less viscous damper oil and softer springs did improve the cars handling but for me it never performed to its potential.

Rubber Tires for RC Models
Rubber Tires ALWAYS should have either soft sponge or rubber inserts. They will not function as they should without them. And if you are totally serious about your racing they should be glued to the rims. How to Mount Rubber Tires onto Wheels/Rims.
Before mounting your Tires, I would recommend talking to the more experienced racers at your local club, concerning what inserts they use. Even the top level racers rely on a bit of local knowledge on tracks they have never raced before. |
Hints, Tips and Information
Gearing to Win
Just because you have the latest model, the best available batteries, the most powerful electric motor or nitro engine, doesn't mean you will go out and win everything in sight. The fastest car on the track is rarely the one that wins, it's the one that can accelerate out of corners under control, and remains consistent and efficient from the start to the end of a race.
